Updating the NH Eligibility Process
During the 2011 Legislative Session, LifeSpan made fixing the nursing home eligibility process a top priority. As a result of our advocacy efforts, the General Assembly mandated that the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene and the Department of Human Resources undertake aggressive strategies to streamline the current process and eliminate delays. Monthly reports to the legislature are required. DHR/DHMH are in the process of implementing the following steps:
- Revising the sixty-month lookback period (May 2, 2011)
- Implementing technology and training on a new risk-based assessment tool known as Auto Gov on a pilot basis (June 6th, 2011). Full implementation scheduled for September 2011.
- Developing a revised application that is consistent with the new look back approach articulated in the Action Transmittal (July 1, 2011)
- Creating materials and offer training on the new application and process to providers, advocacy groups and other stakeholders (August 1, 2011)
- Implementing a new process to complete applications online (September 1, 2011)
- Evaluating the new application process (December 1, 2011)
